“sound & vision” was an underground/alternative nightlife event that ran at a nightclub called transmission in jersey city, nj from 2017 to 2018. this was a really fun logo to develop, and one mashes up several visual concepts. primarily, it's a homage to #jamiereid's typography for s*x pistols. when one thinks of that illustrative style, many imagine it as having more typefaces than it really does. the iconic designs really only use a few typefaces, all in the same family. it's the usage of the type that makes the design feel chaotic, not the selection of different faces. that “chaotic but simple” design approach was a guiding philosophy used in this piece overall. another visual easter egg is in the pair of “s” letterforms, shaped into lighting bolts as a nod to david bowie (whose 1977 single “sound and vision” gave this particular event its name). in order to not directly duplicate the familiar lighting bolt icon associated with the artist, this alternative treatment was drawn with bisecting slices. the final visual reference used in the piece was the mod target icon used heavily from the late '50s to this day by the mod subculture. the mod target here was altered in its proportions slightly to subtly resemble a 7" or 12" record. ✏️ #luminadesignlab#graphicdesign#graphicdesigner#graphicdesignernyc#freelancegraphicdesigner#freelancegraphicdesignernyc#logodesign#logodesigner#graphicdesignstudio#artstudio#designstudio#artdirector#creativedirector#socialmediamanager#socialmediadirector#businessmarketing#typography#typetopia#nightlifedesign

Over the past year i have been working with my pals @liquidrum and @jordanbelafonte to build something new for musicians, a tool to log and structure one’s practice regimen. well this week we launched the practice journal on @kickstarter !! link in bio if you want to check it and learn more about what we made.
give this post a swipe to see some of the art and layout design @jordanbelafonte and myself put together. these are 2 out of the 7 sections the book has to help organize how you can keep track of your practice time.
