Images from the Soul of the World
In the past few months, I have had the honor of doing Interpretive Touch Drawing at four events of global significance. It is with joy that I share them. Each conference gallery includes photos from the event, and all drawings are labeled with the presentation during which they were created. Custom signed fine art prints are available in three sizes. This is the largest asparagus painting I have ever done. I really love those blue bands they add a lovely contrast 10x8”

What I’m working on today... paper Iceland poppy, for this month’s #paperflowerchallenge . Made with @liagriffith heavy crepe, shaded with a touch of orange #panpastel and watercolor. Inspired by the Giant Peach variety from @floretflower (I love their website, someday I might actually try to grow some real flowers, but not this year!)

This career path is not for the faint of heart. It’s constant work. Not only making things with my hands but putting myself out there, trying new things, meeting new people, following new pathways, dealing with issues gracefully. It’s all hard work that I am willing to put in to make this work for me and my family.
.
More and more I find myself surrounded by newcomers that are at a ropes end, stuck, so stuck that they can’t move forward. So overwhelmed by the thought of failure, that this won’t work or that they just weren’t cut out for it. It hurts my heart to see them suffer in that place.
.
With that being said, I do t think one person is better if at this career path. It just takes someone that is willing to fall down and ultimately get back up again. Someone that can roll with the punches until it calms down, then start moving forward.
.
There have been so many times that I’ve wanted to just throw my hands up and walk away. Like the time a $350 bouquet miraculously disappeared in the postal system only days before an anniversary or the time I had a nasty review about my daffodil design that they clearly thought didn’t even look like one. Or the time one of my brides changed her colors on me three times or that package that looked like Bigfoot stomped on it. Oh and that one time I accidentally switched labels and sent out the wrong packages, one being for a wedding the same week. 🤦‍♀️
.
In the thick of it I was upset, angry, ready to kick rocks and move away to an island in the South Pacific. But then I composed myself, got up off the unswept floor and did what I had to do. I made a promise to my clients, a promise that I would be there for them, to fulfill their flower needs and do it with as much grace as possible.
.
You see it’s not that the most talented artists succeed in this line of work, it’s really the ones that put every ounce of themselves into creating a safe place for their clients and themselves. Knowing that the ol’ saying “this too shall pass” is spot freaking on will pay off tenfold when you crawl your way out of the pits of despair when something goes horribly wrong. It was a great last night at re-bar, competing in @artbattleseattle . I feel surprisingly calm and concentrated. I thought I would be extra nevous when people rotating around and watch me paint. But when I started painting, the background just faded, and the paint and blank canvas is all I saw. I got to meet new friends and catch up with old ones. I had a super fun night. Thanks @seattleartmeetup for coming. And I also run into @colorbyfeliks, who eventually bought my piece. I feels so lucky that one of my favorite artists likes my work 😼😼😼. Last photo is me with my favorite artist last night @gobsofcolor . She eventually won the battle as well. I voted for her twice 😳, I'm the queen maker. #artbattle #artbattleseattle #art It was a great last night at re-bar, competing in @artbattleseattle . i feel surprisingly calm and concentrated. i thought i would be extra nevous when people rotating around and watch me paint. but when i started painting, the background just faded, and the paint and blank canvas is all i saw. i got to meet new friends and catch up with old ones. i had a super fun night. thanks @seattleartmeetup for coming. and i also run into @colorbyfeliks, who eventually bought my piece. i feels so lucky that one of my favorite artists likes my work 😼😼😼. last photo is me with my favorite artist last night @gobsofcolor . she eventually won the battle as well. i voted for her twice 😳, i'm the queen maker. #artbattle #artbattleseattle #art
