Am eggstremely annoyed with my 🕺bf, lately. i swear, i'm gonna give him a knuckle sandwich!
yes, people. this is an egg & knuckle sandwich. pork knuckle, to be exact. and i f**king ❤'ed it! it was porky and unctuous. actually, make that 😋yumtuous. and the milk bun it was served on took it over the top. you'll have to trust me on that.
fwiw, was here for dinner a couple months back, and wasn't especially into my meal. but the 🇹🇼taiwanese spin on 🥞🍳breakfast definitely had my attention. arrived at around 1:00 on saturday afternoon and almost turned around and left when i encountered a looooong a** line of hangry hipsters waiting to place their orders. but i'm a new yorker, so i put on my 😏big girl, waiting in an endless line pants and s****d it up. i was desolate when a few minutes in, a staff person announced that they were out of fan tuan, aka the 🍚rice roll that was my primary lure. went for this sandwich instead. zero regrets.
also got a mochi 🍩doughnut, which was fried on the spot and became instantly 💘smitten. i mean, warm fried dough with that trademark chewy mochi texture? yes, please! even my mochi-despising food crawl partner-in-crime was converted. am remembering a subtle sesame flavor that was really lovely.
a black sugar 🥚egg tart impressed me with its resilience, 💪surviving an upstate road trip, to make a long story short: heated up, it still tasted pretty, pretty, pretty good a few days later. it was a bit skimpy in terms of custard, so i didn't love it as much as the other two. but with its ultra-flaky crust, very worthy nonetheless.
have been to the win son restaurant and both adored and didn't adore the food there. same with this bakery outpost. i guess it's really true what they say: you win son. you lose son.😉😉😉

for me, the answer is always to brioche. especially when it involves a large pool of rich, deep, dark valrhona 🍫chocolate ganache.
now to back up for a minute, i have this terrible tendency to buy a bunch of 🍰🍪🥧🍩treats at once with the intent of sharing 'n savoring over the course of a few days. did you know that you can freshen up week old 🥚egg tarts in a 350f oven for a few minutes and they still taste pretty, pretty, pretty good? well, i sure wish i knew of a similar trick for chocolate brioche🤔. 'cause i waited waaaaay too long to eat this and the brioche bit got dry. really dry.
thing is, though, the chocolate ganache tasted 😋fab and my spidey sense tingled, telling me that had i not been such a loser and waited forever to eat this, it would have been delicious. i definitely plan to return for a redo and to grab a 🥖baguette. on this visit, i saw some gorgeous specimens on display for a mere $2.
this l'il artisanal 🇲🇫french bakeshop is located right around the corner from the walk-up where my brother once lived a zillion years ago. the times, they sure are a changin'.
So happy i got to try @milkbarstore for the first time at their grand opening of the nyc flagship store 😋 there’s seating, build your own dessert stations, and even a mini-mart for your grab-and-go needs. it’s a sugar-filled playground you don’t wanna miss out on!

the fish cone is actually a japanese fish-shaped cake, and at @taiyakinyc you can choose to get it with traditional bean paste, or with vanilla cream. mostly it’s a really fun way to eat ice cream, and i would assume just about everyone run out of the store to take a picture. honestly, it’s pretty as hell 🤷🏻♀️ swipe for fish-shaped cone-cake!!

i’ve been to the first and original location in chicago a few years ago, and i’ve also been to 4 charles ribs (same chef) and i’m very happy to know that i don’t have to go to chicago or wait months for a reservation at 4 charles to eat one of the best burgers i’ve ever had! ⠀⠀⠀

i first tried this sweet, sweet l'il bakeshop over the 😎☀️summer. back then, it had just opened, and i remember being 😯impressed by the le cordon bleu pedigree of the baker member of the bff duo at the helm. i was just as impressed by the 🍪🍰treats i sampled.
on this most recent visit, i was determined to get my hands on some butter mochi, which has an irresistible spongy, chewy texture, thanks to the 🐇🎩magic of glutinous rice flour. this is something i actually used to make semi-regularly back when i had a working oven: long story short, a gas leak in my ancient 🗽nyc apartment building has created a domino effect of complications that are ever so slooowly being resolved... but i digress. point is, i adore me some butter mochi!
happy to report, this ube number satisfied my utmost primal desires for buttery, sweet chewyliciousness. didn't really pick up any ube flavor🤔, but i was in it for the fun texture, tbh.
my food crawl co-conspirator insisted on getting some sort of 🍅tomatoey puff pastry creation that was worthy, too. what else can i say except i really like this spot. sooo um... mochi!💜💜💜
