after fourteen years in competitive swimming, i became complacent and gained one hundred pounds over the following decade which resulted in reduced confidence, physical discomfort and a number of other issues.
blaming genetics and a challenging career served no purpose and eventually, it became clear that if i didn't own it, nothing would have changed (certainly not genetics or the rigors of actuarial science). then, i decided to take massive action:
step 1: nutrition - learn it
you are what you eat. an understanding of nutrient composition, caloric guidelines and healthy alternatives are critical. cheat days are necessary to preserve sanity.
step 2: exercise - experiment with it
finding a new challenge in distance running was key to gaining momentum and reigniting my athletic capabilities.
step 3: discipline - maintain it
sustainable work-life integration is key.
wherever you are in your journey and whatever challenges you are facing, my hope is that you can apply this simple framework to transform your life as well.
Assalamualaikum and hello everyone, i just wanted to share some of my thoughts. i just realized that the advice “ think positive thoughts and the universe will provide ” is dumb. yes, i know you all will be mad at me for saying that. however, you need to read this caption all the way down to understand. people who say this kind of thing are nonsense. they must have read only one book. secret, it's a good book, sounds good, but it doesn't work. this book shows that everything you need to think about is positive. these writers are shrewd bastards. the system is uncertain, if you have a positive mindset and nothing happens, just stop thinking and realize that this is all nonsense and get back to work. if something happens by chance, you immediately convey it to your positive thoughts. first, the world acts with action and response. you do it, then something happens. you work for an hour, get paid for an hour. you eat a lot of fast food, get fat. you don't go out, so you don't meet new people. these are very basic things guys. having an optimistic view is good, but it will not be enough and you realize that positive thinking will not work unless you do the work. no matter how many positive thoughts you send into the universe, unless you stop kicking big mac after big mac in the mouth and start hitting the gym, you won't get fit.
