This morning facebook reminded me of where we were 1 year ago. this was a day before his liver avm surgery. you can actually see how distended his liver was, that bulge on his side by his visible hand is the effects of his liver pushing things around. it was huge and it was causing his heart failure. he had a massive avm and tons of hemangiomas throughout it. we didn’t know if the embolization would work, no one had ever done it on a baby so young, ever...world wide. but we had no choice, at this point he was failing to thrive, and while he looks chunky he was actually loosing weight every day. if the embolization failed there weren’t many option, gamma ray on the avm or partial liver transplant. so i kissed my baby all over and entrusted him to the interventional radiologist and spent 3 hours pacing and shopping in the hospital gift store. when they wheeled him back he didn’t even look like himself, he was super swollen from the fluids he got, but the surgery was a success!!! his liver is now stable and the avm is dying off, the hemangiomas have involuted and his liver has shrunk back to a normal size.
