An estimated million people took the streets of London, United Kingdom, on Saturday to call for another referendum on Brexit, which is legally scheduled to happen next Friday. During the protest, an anti-Brexit group of artists called Led By Donkeys, which has been posting tweets of politicians on billboards around the country to show the politicians’ hypocrisy, unfurled a 8,000 sq ft (800 square meter) banner with a tweet from pro-Brexit politician David Davis in which he said, “If a democracy cannot change, it ceases to be a democracy.” 🇬🇧🇪🇺

Six days after 50 people were killed in a terrorist attack in two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand’s prime minister Jacinda Ardern announced that the country will ban all military-style semi automatic weapons. She also said that a gun buyback scheme would be introduced. She said legislation is being drafted and will be introduced urgently. The government has also introduced an interim measure to ensure no guns of this kind can be purchased after 3pm Thursday New Zealand time. Ardern said cabinet would consider exemptions for some uses of these weapons — for instance large-scale culling of animals — but that they would be “tightly regulated”. The details of the buyback scheme are still being developed, but Ardern said it is estimated to cost up to US $138 million. (📹: Reuters)

Dani Burt’s (@dani.burt) leg was amputated above the knee after a motorcycle crash in 2004 that left her in a coma for 45 days. She went on to become a doctor of physical therapy and the first-ever women’s World Adaptive Surfing champion — but it wasn’t easy. “One of the biggest things I wish people realized about amputees is that you don’t just go in and get a leg,” Burt told BuzzFeed News. “You’re now wearing something that’s not really a part of you, but you have to make it a part of you.” On social media, Burt saw the need for someone to be real about life as an amputee. “I needed to know I wasn’t alone, but that was near impossible to find,” she said. “I have the platform, privilege and responsibility to do that loud and clear. I know what it feels like to be knocked down hard and I hope to make the path I had to travel on a little less bumpy for others.” Stay tuned here and on @instagram to see more 🏄‍♀️🙌 (📷: @dani.burt)

Thousands of people are feared dead and more than 1.5 million people are affected in Mozambique, Malawai and Zimbabwe after a massive cyclone struck the three southern African countries, according to the UN. Cyclone Idia submerged entire villages and left bodies floating in the floodwaters, according to Mozambique’s president. Mozambique was the hardest hit, with more than 200 people confirmed dead and the death toll expected to rise to the thousands, according to the president. The storm hit on Thursday and moved west into Zimbabwe and Malawi, affecting thousands more. On Tuesday, Mozambique announced three days of mourning and declared a national emergency. UN agencies and the Red Cross are helping with rescue efforts, including delivering food supplies and medicines by helicopter. The cyclone may be the worst ever disaster to strike the southern hemisphere, according to the UN. (📹: @ifrc)

Dutch people are leaving flowers at a makeshift memorial in Utrecht, the Netherlands, after a shooting on a tram in the city on Monday left at least three people dead and five injured. A 37-year-old man from Turkey has been arrested, with people who knew him saying that they believed the assault was some kind of domestic disputes. Police, however, have said that they have found no links between the suspect and the three people killed on the train. Authorities say they are still considering terrorism as a motive. Dutch prime minister Mark Rutte also laid flowers at the site of the shooting. (📷: Getty, AP, Reuters)

Following the terror attack in Christchurch, New Zealand, which claimed the lives of 50 people, a cartoonist for an Australian newspaper has redrawn the New Zealand’s iconic silver fern as Muslims in different stages of prayer. Pat Campbell, who drew the cartoon for the Canberra Times, told BuzzFeed News that he has friends in Christchurch and owns a small block of land just outside the city. Campbell said he hadn’t slept well and was lying in bed when the idea came to him. “I was thinking of the fern and thinking the pinnae (the individual bits coming off the stem) looked like figures, a similar number to the number of victims,” he said. He then decided to draw the fern but with the silhouettes of people praying, he said. The 50 figures were deliberate, he said. “There were a lot of silhouettes to draw,” he said. “They just kept coming. It brought home to me the death toll and the destruction one man can do with the right weapons.” The cartoon has since been widely shared online. (📷: @patcartoons for the Canberra Times)

New Zealand’s prime minister Jacinda Ardern has said that she will never say the name of the terrorist who attacked the two mosques in Christchurch on Friday and killed 50 people. “He sought many things from his act of terror, but one was notoriety. That is why you will never hear me mention his name,” she said during an address at New Zealand’s parliament on Monday. She also implored others to speak the names of the victims rather than the man who took them. “He may have sought notoriety, but we, in New Zealand, will give him nothing, not even his name.” (📹: Reuters)
