It’s no coincidence that many of the greatest olympia champions have the best backs of their era. men like @lee_haney_official, @thedorianyates, @ronniecoleman8 and @philheath utterly dominate the opposition in back poses! @themsolympia lenda murray and @iriskyle built tremendous backs and shut many a show down the moment they turned their backs to us! the mighty @flex_lewis is the same! traps to calves...absolutely complete!
here is the 4x women’s physique olympia champion @julesfit10 shown in shots from her olympia wins and 3 @bevsgym new york pro wins. the first pic is the most recent, from the 2017 olympia, and they go back in time so the last pic is from the 2012 ny pro.
juliana has what my dear friend alyssa @the_classicalqueen kiessling would call one beautiful posterior chain! top to bottom juliana created a beautiful work of art. symmetry, balance, proportion...perfection! everything flows and it all pops so gorgeously.
i will miss seeing this amazing artist and athlete on the olympia stage this year. seriously...the thought of no juliana malacarne and no @oksanagrishina competing at the 2018 olympia...i can’t even explain the void i’m going to feel...but that will be the topic of other posts between now and september. this post was simply to celebrate this! look at that beautiful posterior chain!!!
one of the most gorgeous back double biceps ever. period. #julianamalacarne#womensphysique#msolympia#olympia#champion#bodybuilder#bodybuilding#bethebiggerperson#thisisbodybuilding

to me juliana's greatest win was this one...the 2012 ny pro. this is an interview juliana gave 10 days out from her first pro win.
sure the olympia wins and the arnold win was great but her 1st ny pro win...the 1st ever win of her professional career...was the greatest one to me. the fact that she had a 6 year drought of winning to start her pro career and then won this one under the circumstances she did make this one the greatest to me. juliana was basically about to retire when they came out with wpd. this would've been her last show if she hadn't won it.
i remember standing outside with juliana and a group of us after the 2012 ny pro prejudging had concluded. prejudging had ended with juliana dead in the center and it was obvious she had won. jm manion @jmmanion came up to us and said "juliana congratulations on looking awesome and it's nice to see my father's vision come to fruition today. you were one of the names that popped up when my dad spoke about creating this division so it's nice to see you onstage in this new division looking the part here today"
that was a cool moment and then immediately juliana turned to me and said "justin i kept a letter that you gave me". i said "what?" she said "a letter you wrote me at the 2008 arnold when i was upset about my placing...it said that i would be ms olympia one day in a new division the ifbb would create. i thought you were crazy but i kept it. if i ever win ms olympia i will post it". and she posted it on ig after her first of 4 olympia wins. but to me the most special moment of it all was that first ny pro win. even cooler is that we have video footage shown here to document it all. congrats on a great hall of fame career juliana! hopefully we see you onstage again in 2019. wishing you all the best. #juliannamalacarne#justinmiller#thisisbodybuilding
The first live ifbb show i ever went to was the 2012 @bevsgym new york pro. from that moment on flex magazine and mr. olympia on bodybuilding.com just would never be enough.
i’ve been blessed to have seen true legends in their primes! folks like @philheath, @flex_lewis, @oksanagrishina, @jeremy_buendia, and of course the woman who won that 2012 ny pro wpd championship...the beautiful @julesfit10. i saw her live as she won 3 consecutive ny pros, the inaugural arnold classic wpd ms. international and, of course, her 4 consecutive women’s physique olympia championships. and today, she gave me the honor of being the first large bodybuilding media site to announce that she will not be competing in the 2018 olympia.
this is not a retirement. this is a break. i think she deserves it.
in 2014 she beat the inaugural wpd ms. olympia, dana lin bailey, in a very decisive manner. she maintained that dominance at the 2015 arnold classic. she’s maintained consistent greatness with a different 1st runner up each year. i rank her with the likes of cory everson and lenda murray as the ultimate in feminine muscle.
some folks have been commenting that they hate to see her go because they fear femininity will leave wpd. that ultimately will be in the judges hands.
so...why???? well, she is not injured. she is healthy and she is happy. she’s grown disinterested in the look of wp. she wanted to soften the look to a healthier one...sort of how the ifbb initially stated the look would be...”conditioned but not striated”...but it was made clear to her that last year’s conditioning would be required this year. it was a look she didn’t like for herself. with little financial rewards(fact: this 4x reigning olympia champion has no major sponsors, has never had a spread in a major magazine much less a cover...and did i mention no sponsors?!) the fire & passion for competing and representing wp has left her heart at this time. her passion is placed now in a new happy relationship. she is enjoying life and staying healthy. some day, somewhere and in some form she may compete again. just not in 2018.
tomorrow will be #juliannamalacarne day here at #thisisbodybuilding, so stay tuned for more!
Stay turned as tonight i will be reporting on a conversation i had today with the 4x and reigning wpd ms. olympia, @julesfit10 and her decision to not compete in the 2018 olympia. there will be a new women’s physique olympia champion in 2018...the 3rd ever in the history of the division.
i will bring you the reasons one of the greatest ifbb female champions of all time is choosing to...for the time being at least...step away from the stage. stay tuned. if you love this sport, you have to love julianna...and you’ll want to read it all right here at @this_is_bodybuilding. no sensationalism. all honest. no bs. only truth.

Check out my buddy @chedges123 ’s page. he’s prepping for his 1st contest and he’s a pretty darn good writer. here is his most recent post. give it a read! #repost@chedges123
today i am going to talk about this word, which is thrown around incorrectly constantly within the world of bodybuilding. .
first up, i will say that this post will p**s some people off. if it pisses you off? good. you are the problem. 🙄
now! is bodybuilding subjective? yes. only to a certain extent though. only when two competitors are objectively equal, does subjectivity come into play. if both are on par conditioning-wise, mass, proportions, posing ability etc, then it comes down to who's shape you, or the judges, prefer. or, if one competitor is bigger with slightly worse proportions, and the other is smaller with great proportions and symmetry, it comes down to preference. .
however, when one competitor exhibits superior condition, proportions, symmetry, fullness, separation, definition, and posing ability, who you prefer means nothing. he is objectively better.
the point of all this? some people need to learn to look at bodybuilding with objective eyes. personality, country of birth, and social media following means nothing on stage. if one person has a better physique, they are the winner. end of story, deal with it. if you disagree? use logic to back your opinion, do not just furiously type your favourite's name in all capitals and talk negatively of the winner. .
