Surprise is all about contrast and whimsy. you can find it in the wild through high-contrast, anything out of context, or anything that feels quirky and bold. you can create it in your space by adding contrasting elements, such as tiles or dishes in a different color, opting for furnishings with a quirky, offbeat design, or by tucking bright color or pattern into the inside of drawers and closets. how have you added surprise to your space to make it more joyful?
If there's one place that fills us with joy, no matter what was happening seconds before, it's the pool. it's one place where you can lay on your inner tube and just float until you forget what day it is. just make sure you have a buddy in a float next to you!
If you're looking to put some play into your life, look for spheres, circles, squiggles, loops, waves, and anything that feels playful or cute. you can achieve this by choosing furniture with rounded corners, keeping balls and hula hoops around for spontaneous play, and accenting with pom poms. confetti also helps, too. adding an element of play will increase joy in your space, and also in your life.
