Be relentless in pursuit of your dreams. when i addressed @rubyriottwwe on #raw last night, despite ruby claiming i got to @wwe because i come from a famous wrestling family, i wanted her to know that she was so very wrong. doors were slammed in my face. for years i’d send in tapes and i’d get letters back (one being from dr tom prichard, who would later be one of my favorite coaches), telling me that there just wasn’t a spot for me at the moment but to “keep going.” sometimes i didn’t get those letters back. sometimes i heard nothing and sometimes i heard the run around. i fought and scratched and clawed until i got hired to be a developmental student for a few hundred dollars a week. and i had no idea i’d have to fight and scratch and claw a decade after that... even after i got the job! it took me years to get hired by wwe and years after that to hit my stride and to feel like i belonged. i kept pushing and when i’d fail, i’d get back up and i’d grow. i knew i’d land where i needed to if i put in the work. looking back, i’m so grateful the doors were slammed in my face because it’s made me stronger than i knew was possible. strong enough to handle absolutely anything. “the brick walls are there for a reason. the brick walls are not there to keep us out. the brick walls are there to give us a chance to show how badly we want something. because the brick walls are there to stop the people who don’t want it badly enough. they’re there to stop the other people.” #randypausch#wwetlc
I’m in a throwback type of mood today🥰 i’m so glad i decided to brush my hair before taking pics and get better ring gear than a black singlet (thank you @terrysews2!!) i think @tjwilson711 has this reverse aging thing down pretty d****d good like @jlo. (tj’s going to text me and ask why i post such awful pics of him!!!!!😂😅😐)
I wish i could be in calgary today for #wwelive! 🇨🇦 from training in the dungeon, getting my first pair of pink wrestling boots from my uncle ross, wrestling at the ogden legion hall in front of a packed 50 people including my grandfather, stu, sitting front row giving me that wink of approval. i have so many awesome memories from the start of my career in calgary, including managing @tjwilson711 . tj said recently in an interview “for whatever reason, succeeding in wrestling just seemed possible.” when you believe in something, anything is possible. 🙏
first pic is of me facing off against beautiful belle lovitz (jamie henwood) one of my first opponents. i was so lucky to have her help.
second pic is of me with apoc @wwe_viktor setting up the ring on my grandfather’s lawn in the summer (eric doing all the work!!!🤣) third pic, managing @tjwilson711 in 2002 at the ogden legion of doom!!!!!! 🇨🇦❤️🙏
I want to thank my beautiful friend @jannarden for opening up to me so candidly in one of my favorite @calgarysun columns yet. jann is not only an incredible musician and canadian music icon... but jann also provides a powerful message in our conversation. link in my bio! #jannsroad 💜
