I’ve been insecure about my stomach since middle school. I’m finally learning how to love myself and not worrying about what my stomach looks like. I know that I’m okay the way I am and that I’m more than my weight and my body type.

To all of the people out there who struggle with accepting themselves, just know that you are beautiful no matter what anyone says – even yourself. You deserve to love yourself and I know that you will accomplish self-love one day. The journey to self-love is a hard one but keep going, you got this. 💙⚡️

Huge thank you goes out to @globalhealthstrategies, @btwfoundation, & the Global Campaign for Mental Health for inviting me to last night’s Scaling Up for Mental Health event and allowing me to speak about how I’m advocating for youth mental health on a global scale 💛

In 2012 when I was 14 years old, my best friend told me that she was going through mental health problems. This was a huge shock to me as I didn’t know much about mental health. I wanted to be a supportive friend, so I started researching mental health so I could understand more about it. My best friend always told me that my support meant so much to her, which always stuck with me. About a year later on April 8th, 2013, I was scrolling through my Twitter feed when I found out that three girls I followed were thinking of suicide. After tweeting them support, I began to think how I could prevent situations like this from happening. That’s when I thought of a simple idea: pair people together as buddies. This led to the creation of Buddy Project (@buddyproject), which is now a non-profit movement aiming to prevent suicide and raise awareness for mental health. We’ve connected over 215,000 people around the world with a buddy in the past five years. We hope to expand our community even more with the release of our app, which we’re in the process of creating. Since becoming a 501c3 organization in 2015, we’ve raised a couple thousand dollars for mental health facilities in the United States. Buddy Project has helped thousands of people find an accepting and loving community to talk about mental health. Mental health is important and no one should be ashamed to talk about it. You are loved, you are strong, you are capable, and you are valid. 💙
