Keaton is a 7 year old schnauzer whose spirit far exceeds his stature. He's a semi-professional hiker and nature enthusiast living in Vancouver, BC.

Life imitates art just as art imitates life, but in the end, we are all just wolves howling at the same moon. Thank you to @jeartgallery for this ridiculously cool painting #whpimagination

Standing on a hill in my mountain of dreams, telling myself it’s not as hard, hard, hard as it seems.

We chased our pleasures here, dug our treasures there, but can you still recall the time we cried break on through to the other side.

Deep into that darkness peering, long I sat there wondering, fearing, doubting, dreaming dreams no schnauzer ever dared to dream before #whpblackandwhite

Mars ain’t the kind of place to raise your kids, in fact it’s cold as hell. And there’s no one there to raise them if you did. And all the science I don’t understand, it’s just my job 5 days a week. A rocket man, I’m a rocket man 🚀

In touch with the ground-I’m on the hunt, I’m after you. Scent and a sound, I’m lost and I’m found, and I’m hungry like the wolf.

Keaton recently suffered a severe case of acute pancreatitis that landed him in the hospital. The direness of the situation came as a complete shock because he was perfectly healthy just days before. The onset of his illness was innocent enough, but his condition swiftly deteriorated. We ended up at the emergency vet where despite his protests, he was to be left for monitoring overnight. That was the longest night of my life. The unrelenting fear of losing my best friend was paralyzingly real. I prefer not to imagine how he must have processed being left alone in a foreign place-in pain, and far from the creature comforts of home and reassuring pat on the head. But after two agonizing days and nights and lots of IV therapy he was able to come home. I rejoiced as if I had won the lottery by simply witnessing him eat a meal and taking a drink of water after days of refusing to do so. And to see him finally take a normal poop, well... that was worth its weight in solid gold (with the emphasis on solid). These were all signs his pancreas was working again and it’s remarkable how quickly they rebound once the recovery process begins. It’s with great relief I can say he’s doing markedly better and full of his usual gumption and panache. His bout with pancreatitis has not abated his air of aristocracy for ruling the roost around the house either. Because schnauzers are particularly prone to pancreatitis, his highness is now on a strict, low fat, gastrointestinal diet so hopefully he will never have to go through this again. I’m comforted by the fact he doesn’t harbour my fears that this might reoccur. He just goes out and does his thing and that thing that he does means the world to me. I hope my fellow schnauzer lovers will read up on preventative measures regarding pancreatitis (such as a low fat diet) to safeguard their health, vitality, and stubbornness well into their adult lives.
