A year ago today, i was traveling to denmark, on the first leg of a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity - a unicef/norwegian air humanitarian aid flight for yemen. after loading supplies from unicef’s warehouse in copenhagen, we flew to djibouti, on the horn of africa, from where the aid was shipped across to yemen. we also visited with yemeni refugees at the markazi refugee camp in obock, djibouti. a year later, the war in yemen unfortunately continues, and the world’s largest humanitarian crisis has worsened.
Visiting cairo was one of my favorite travel experiences, and a highlight was running into anthony bourdain in the lobby of the nile hilton, where we were staying. only had the opportunity to say “hi anthony,” but it was a cool, chance meeting. always wish i could have accompanied him around the city that day. it was great hearing his take on the world all these years. rip
