When you think about what sort of presence you want to have in this life, remember this: the way you treat the people you encounter is vastly more important to your legacy than the work you will create. start with kindness and the rest will fall into place.
As we slide inevitably into the holiday season, the streets of new york become dense with wide eyed tourists, their faces upturned, catching the bright glow of billboard lights and store displays. there’s an extra layer of excitement in the air, a layer only added by those who don’t see such sights on a daily basis. it reminds me of my first visits to the city i knew i’d live in- a buzzing anticipation, an understanding of the rhythmic pulse of the city, the feeling of being one small cell inside a beating heart. .
people ask me if i’ll live here forever, and the truth is i don’t know- but a part of me will, the curious, questioning, seeking part of me will always orbit this glowing arena, this man made mountain range of steel and glass. i love new york in all its phases, it’s seasons, it’s pleasures and its pains- it reminds me of the fine balance of life, of how quickly it all goes- and how without loss, there could be no love.

“do you remember when you took your first photographs? when i was 9 or 10, i went to a summer camp, where i took a photography course and we were shooting on black-and-white film. i remember the dark room. there was just a red light, and it was very quiet, with all these chemicals around. we put the paper in the developer and silver crystals started to come off the paper and this image slowly emerged. it’s the closest thing to magic i’ve ever seen in my life. i couldn’t believe it as a kid. i think i’ve always been chasing that same moment of magic, even though, today, you can just press a button and have a photo instantaneously develop.” last month i spent a week in prague with @skodagram- they just posted the work i made and a lengthy interview. link in stories and in my bio- check it out and i’d love to hear what you think.
